Foundation June 2023 Unit 2 Q6
6. In the table below, the letters \(a\), \(b\), \(c\) and \(d\) represent different numbers.
The total for each row is given at the side of the table.
Find the values of \(a\), \(b\), \(c\) and \(d\). [4]
| \(a\) | \(a\) | \(a\) | \(a\) | 120 |
| \(b\) | \(a\) | \(a\) | \(a\) | 107 |
| \(b\) | \(b\) | \(c\) | \(c\) | 114 |
| \(a\) | \(b\) | \(c\) | \(d\) | 100 |
\(a =\) ……………
\(b =\) ……………
\(c =\) ……………
\(d =\) ……………
| Scheme | Marks | Comments |
|---|---|---|
| \(a\) = 30 | B1 | Answer space takes precedence. CAO |
| \(b\) = 17 | B1 | F.T. 107 – 3 × ‘their \(a\)’ |
| \(c\) = 40 | B1 | F.T. 57 – ‘their \(b\)’ |
| \(d\) = 13 | B1 | Strict F.T. 100 – ‘their \(a\)’ – ‘their \(b\)’ – ‘their \(c\)’ |
Corrected by Westie's Workshop
- The board's mark scheme printed “Strict F.T. 100 – ‘their a’ – their b’ – ‘their c’”. Changed to “Strict F.T. 100 – ‘their a’ – ‘their b’ – ‘their c’” because the opening quotation mark before “their b” was missing.
