(a) A train is travelling with a velocity of 15 m/s.
It then accelerates at 0.5 m/s\(^2\) for 6 seconds.
It then accelerates at 0.5 m/s\(^2\) for 6 seconds.
Use the formula \(v = u + at\) to calculate the velocity of the train after the 6 seconds. [2]
(b) Rearrange the formula \(v = u + at\) to make \(a\) the subject. [2]
| Answer | Marks | Part marks and guidance | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 18 | 2 | M1 for 15 + 0.5 × 6 or better | Do not accept use of \(0.5^2\) |
| Answer | Marks | Part marks and guidance | |
|---|---|---|---|
| \(a = \dfrac{v - u}{t}\) oe final answer | 2 | M1 for correct first step or \(\dfrac{v - u}{t}\) | Accept \(\dfrac{v - u}{t} = a\) |
