Higher June 2024 Paper 1 Q7
7 Kasim has some small jars, some medium jars and some large jars.
He has a total of 400 jars.
\(\dfrac{3}{8}\) of the 400 jars are empty.
For the empty jars,
number of small jars : number of medium jars = 3 : 4
number of medium jars : number of large jars = 1 : 2
Work out the percentage of Kasim’s jars that are empty small jars. (5)
| Answer | Mark | Mark scheme |
|---|---|---|
| 7.5 | P1 | for process to find the number of empty jars eg \(3 \div 8 \times 400\) oe (= 150) |
| P1 | for start of process to deal with ratios eg 3 : 4 and 4 : 8 or 3 : 4 : 8 oe | |
| P1 | for process to find the number of empty small jars eg \(\dfrac{3}{3 + 4 + 8} \times \text{``}150\text{''}\) oe (= 30) or 30 : 40 : 80 | |
| P1 | for process to find percentage, eg \(\dfrac{\text{``}30\text{''}}{400} \times 100\) oe or \(\dfrac{\text{``}7.5\text{''}}{100}\) | |
| A1 | for 7.5 or \(7\dfrac{1}{2}\) oe | |
