Chloe has a large number of hair bands.
Each hair band costs 8p.
She buys 100 g of wool for £3
Chloe uses 1 hair band and 5 g of wool to make each scrunchy.
She makes as many scrunchies as she can.
Work out the total cost of each scrunchy that she makes.
Give your answer in pence. (4)
| Answer | Mark | Mark scheme |
|---|---|---|
| 23 | P1 | for finding the number of scrunchies possible eg \(100 \div 5\ (= 20)\) or the cost of 1 g of wool eg \(300 \div 100\ (= 3)\) |
| P1 | for working out the cost of wool per scrunchie eg \(3 \div \text{``}20\text{''}\ (= 0.15)\) or \(300 \div \text{``}20\text{''}\ (= 15)\) or \(\text{``}3\text{''} \times 5\ (= 15)\) or the cost of all hair bands eg \(\text{``}20\text{''} \times 8\ (= 160)\) or \(\text{``}20\text{''} \times 0.08\ (= 1.6(0))\) | |
| P1 | for complete process eg \((\text{``}0.15\text{''} + 0.08) \times 100\) or \(\text{``}15\text{''} + 8\) or \((300 + \text{``}160\text{''}) \div \text{``}20\text{''}\) or \((3 + \text{``}1.6(0)\text{''}) \div \text{``}20\text{''} \times 100\) | |
| A1 | accept £0.23 |
