Foundation June 2025 Paper 1R Q14
14 The diagram shows a plan of a garden made from three identical rectangles.

Diagram NOT accurately drawn
The length of each rectangle is 6 metres.
The width of each rectangle is 3.5 metres.
Jeremy puts a fence around the perimeter of the garden.
He charges 7.60 euros for each 1 metre of fence.
Work out how much Jeremy charges in total for the fence.
(4)
| Scheme | Marks |
|---|---|
| 6 – 3.5 (= 2.5) or 4 × 6 + 4 × 3.5 (= 38) or 6 × 6 + 6 × 3.5 (= 57) or 2 × 9.5 × 3 (= 57) or 19 × 3 (= 57) | M1 |
| 4 × 6 + 4 × 3.5 + 2 × “2.5” (= 43) or 6 × 6 + 6 × 3.5 – 4 × 3.5 (= 43) or 2 × 9.5 × 3 – 4 × 3.5 (= 43) or 19 × 3 – 4 × 3.5 (= 43) | M1 |
| eg “43” × 7.6 | M1 |
| Correct answer scores full marks (unless from obvious incorrect working) Answer: 326.8(0) | A1 |

Notes
M1: for a method to find the ‘missing length’
(may be shown on the diagram)
or
for a method to find the length of the solid lines excluding 2.5 m, may include extra sides added
or
for a method to find the perimeter of the 3 rectangles
M1: for a complete method to find the perimeter of the shape
M1: for a method to find the cost, allow use of their “43” as long as from adding at least 4 correct lengths including a length of 3.5 and a length of 6 eg 57 × 7.6(0) or 38 × 7.6(0)
