Higher June 2023 Paper 2 Q19
19 \(ABC\) is a right-angled triangle.

\(AB = 9.3\) cm correct to the nearest mm.
\(AC = 12.6\) cm correct to the nearest mm.
Calculate the lower bound for the size of the angle marked \(x\).
You must show all your working. (3)
| Answer | Mark | Mark scheme |
|---|---|---|
| 46.989... | B1 | for stating at least one bound, 9.25 or 9.35 or 12.55 or 12.65 |
| P1 | for correct use of LB and UB, eg \(\sin x = \dfrac{[\text{LB of } AB]}{[\text{UB of } AC]}\) | |
| A1 | for answer in the range 46.98 to 47 from correct working |
Additional guidance
Accept \(9.34\dot{9}\) or 9.3499(…) or \(12.64\dot{9}\) or 12.6499(…)
\(9.25 \leqslant \text{LB} \lt 9.3\)
\(12.6 \lt \text{UB} \leqslant 12.65\)
\(\sin(x) = 0.731(\ldots)\)
Answer only award no marks.
