Foundation June 2024 Paper 3 Q26
26 Habib has two identical tins.
He puts 600 grams of flour into one of the tins.
The flour fills the tin completely.
The density of the flour is 0.6 g/cm3
Habib puts 600 grams of salt into the other tin.
The salt does not fill the tin completely.
The volume of the space in the tin that is not filled with salt is 700 cm3
Work out the density of the salt.
You must show all your working. (4)
| Answer | Mark | Mark scheme |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | P1 | for process to find volume of tin eg \(600 \div 0.6\ (= 1000)\) |
| P1 | for process to find volume of salt eg \(\text{``}1000\text{''} - 700\ (= 300)\) | |
| P1 | for a process to find density of the salt eg \(600 \div \text{``}300\text{''}\) or \(0.6 \times (\text{``}1000\text{''} \div \text{``}300\text{''})\) or \(600 \div [\text{volume}]\) | |
| A1 | cao |
Additional guidance
Award P1 for \(600 \div 0.6\ (= 1000)\) even if not used
[volume] can be 700 or from a seen calculation using “1000”, “300”, 700 or identified as volume by label or formula or units
A correct answer with no supportive working gets 0 marks
