Higher November 2016 Unit 2 Q17
17. Two similar shapes have areas of 700 cm2 and 140 cm2.
The perimeter of the smaller shape is 83 cm.
Calculate the perimeter of the larger shape. [3]
| Scheme | Marks | Comments |
|---|---|---|
| Linear scale factor \(= \sqrt{\dfrac{700}{140}}\) (\(=\sqrt{5}\)) OR \(\sqrt{\dfrac{140}{700}}\) (\(=\dfrac{\sqrt{5}}{5}\)) | B1 | Or equivalent. |
| \(83 \times \sqrt{5}\) OR \(83 \div \dfrac{\sqrt{5}}{5}\) | M1 | FT their linear scale factor. |
| = 185(.59…cm) or \(83\sqrt{5}\) | A1 |
