Foundation November 2018 Paper 2 Q19
19 Triangle A and triangle B are drawn on the coordinate grid.

(a)
(i) Draw the image of triangle A after a rotation of 180° about (0, 0). [2]
(ii) Draw the image of triangle A after a translation by the vector \(\begin{pmatrix} 2 \\ {}^{-}7 \end{pmatrix}\). [2]
(b) Describe fully the single transformation that maps triangle A onto triangle B. [3]
| Answer | Marks | Part marks and guidance | |
|---|---|---|---|
| (i) Triangle drawn at \(({}^{-}3, {}^{-}2)\), \(({}^{-}5, {}^{-}2)\), \(({}^{-}3, {}^{-}6)\) | 2 | M1 for rotation 180° but wrong centre or 3 correct points not joined | Use overlay condone good freehand, mark intention If triangle B transformed then treat as misread in both parts (i) and (ii) |
| (ii) Triangle drawn at \((7, {}^{-}5)\), \((5, {}^{-}5)\), \((5, {}^{-}1)\) | 2 | M1 for translation by \(\begin{pmatrix} 2 \\ k \end{pmatrix}\) or \(\begin{pmatrix} k \\ -7 \end{pmatrix}\) or 3 correct points not joined | Use overlay condone good freehand, mark intention |
| Answer | Marks | Part marks and guidance | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Enlargement ½ oe \(({}^{-}1, 2)\) | 3 | B1 for each element | Marks spoilt if extra transformations Treat extra descriptors as choice Condone omission of brackets Accept centre as a vector |
