40 of this group were men and the rest were women.
\(\dfrac{3}{5}\) of the men and \(\dfrac{2}{3}\) of the women passed the driving test.
The number of men and women that passed the driving test was the same.
Work out the number of women that took the driving test that day. [5]
| Answer | Marks | Part marks and guidance | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 36 | 5 | M4 for \(40 \times \dfrac{3}{5} \times \dfrac{3}{2}\) oe OR M3 for “women” \(\times \dfrac{2}{3} = 40 \times \dfrac{3}{5}\) OR M2 \(\dfrac{\text{their } 24}{\text{“women”}} = \dfrac{2}{3}\) OR M1 for \(40 \times \dfrac{3}{5}\) oe A1 for 24 | eg \(0.6 \times 40\) = “men passed” = ”women” and “women” + \(\dfrac{\text{“women”}}{2}\) eg accept any symbol for “women” or condone omission of “women” if further working does not imply finding \(\dfrac{2}{3}\) of 24 24 implies M1A1 |
