Higher June 2022 Paper 1 Q11
11 Cormac has some sweets in a bag.
The sweets are lime flavoured or strawberry flavoured or orange flavoured.
In the bag
number of lime flavoured sweets : number of strawberry flavoured sweets : number of orange flavoured sweets = 9 : 4 : \(x\)
Cormac is going to take at random a sweet from the bag.
The probability that he takes a lime flavoured sweet is \(\dfrac{3}{7}\)
Work out the value of \(x\). (3)
| Answer | Mark | Mark scheme |
|---|---|---|
| 8 | P1 | for a start to the process, eg \(\dfrac{9}{9 + 4 + x}\) or \(\left(\dfrac{3}{7} =\right) \dfrac{9}{21}\) or states that the total number of sweets is 21 |
| P1 | for forming a correct equation without fractions, eg \(9 \times 7 = 3(9 + 4 + x)\) or \(21 = 9 + 4 + x\) OR for \(21 - 9 - 4\) oe or \(1 - \dfrac{9}{21} - \dfrac{4}{21}\ \left(= \dfrac{8}{21}\right)\) | |
