Foundation June 2018 Paper 1 Q13
13 A piece of wire is 240 cm long.
Peter cuts two 45 cm lengths off the wire.
He then cuts the rest of the wire into as many 40 cm lengths as possible.
Work out how many 40 cm lengths of wire Peter cuts. (3)
| Answer | Mark | Mark scheme |
|---|---|---|
| 3 | P1 | for a start to the process eg \(240 - (2 \times 45)\ (= 150)\) oe or \((2 \times 45) + 40\ (= 130)\) oe |
| P1 | for complete process eg \(\text{``}150\text{''} \div 40\ (= 3.75)\) – can be implied by \(40 + 40 + 40 = 120\) or \(\text{``}130\text{''} + 40 + 40\ (= 210)\) | |
| A1 | cao |
Additional guidance
Considering just one piece of 45 cm is not a misread
but \((240 - 45) \div 40\ (= 4.875)\) oe should be awarded P1 only
