Higher June 2018 Paper 2R Q1
1 \(x\), 10 and \(y\) are three integers written in order of size, starting with the smallest integer.
The mean of \(x\), 10 and \(y\) is 11
The range of \(x\), 10 and \(y\) is 7
Work out the value of \(x\) and the value of \(y\).
(2)
| Scheme | Marks |
|---|---|
eg \(\dfrac{x + 10 + y}{3} = 11\) oe or \(y - x = 7\) oe 3 × 11 (= 33) | M1 |
| \(x = 8\), \(y = 15\) | A1 |
| (2) | |
| (2 marks) |
Notes
M1: for one correct equation in \(x\) and \(y\) OR finding the total of \(x\), 10 and \(y\) OR two numbers with a sum of 23 OR two numbers with a range of 7
Note: condone non-integers for the award of M1
