Higher November 2016 Unit 1 Q4
4.
(a) Make \(m\) the subject of the formula \(y = 6m + 7\). [2]
(b) Factorise \(6x^2 - 12x\). [2]
| Scheme | Marks | Comments |
|---|---|---|
| \(6m = y - 7\) or \(y - 7 = 6m\) or \(-6m = 7 - y\) | B1 | |
| \(m = \dfrac{y-7}{6}\) or \(m = \dfrac{7-y}{-6}\) or \(m = (y - 7) \div 6\) | B1 | F.T. only from \(6m = y + 7\). B1B0 for \(-\,m = \dfrac{7-y}{6}\) or equivalent. Note Unsupported \(m = y - 7 \div 6\) is B0B0. Unsupported \(\dfrac{y-7}{6}\) is B1B0 (‘m’ missing) |
Corrected by Westie's Workshop
- The board's mark scheme printed “is B1BO (‘m’ missing)”. Changed to “is B1B0 (‘m’ missing)” because the second mark code is B0 with a zero, as in the other marking notes, not the letter O.
Original: see the board's mark scheme PDF (link above).
| Scheme | Marks | Comments |
|---|---|---|
| \(6x\,(x - 2)\) | B2 | B1 for any partial correct factorisation. OR B1 for \(6x(x - \ldots\,)\) OR B1 for \(6x(\,\ldots - 2)\) |
